The United States Geological Survey (USGS) suggest
that during the average year, there are world-wide:
-around 100 extremely damaging and disruptive earthquakes
-around 100,000 thunderstorms
-around 10,000 floods
-hundreds of landslides and tornadoes
-scores of hurricanes, wildfires, volcanic eruptions, droughts and tsunamis
These events can be
costly, both in terms of injuries, fatalities and property damage. The United States
and its specialists, are working as we speak, on trying to find more ways of allerting the
